Everybody has seen a new Apple commercial for iPad Pro.

After the commercial, many of you have been probably wondering can the iPad Pro replace laptop computer for real.

Do you think Apple would recommend iPad Pro as a replacement instead of computers if it wasn’t 100% true?

Apple’s iPad Pro Commercial

In the Apple’s commercial for the iPad Pro which is called “What’s a Computer?”, we can clearly see how Apple is promoting iPad Pro as a replacement for our laptops.

Updated:- Apple published this new video on Nov 16, 2017

” Imagine what your computer could do if your computer was an iPad Pro”

– Apple

With that sentence, Apple is clearly telling us that the iPad Pro could be used instead of our computers.

But is it true? Can the iPad Pro really replace our laptops in reality?

In this post I’m going to talk about advantages and disadvantages of an iPad Pro, and could it really be used as a laptop.

Are iPad Pro specs good enough for a laptop?

iPad Pro is referenced as “Super Computer” which is available in two sizes, 12.9-inch model and 9.7-inch model.

It has a Retina display with screen resolution of 2048×1536 for the 9.7-inch model and 2732×2048 for the 12.9-inch model.

Updated:- Later Apple Released  12.9-inch 2G and 10.5-inch models on June 13, 2017

The screen has a big color standard since the wider color gamut gives iPad Pro up to 25% greater color saturation than previous models.

iPad Pro is equipped with high-tech speakers which are loud enough.

But the most important thing is what’s inside?

Since Apple said that the iPad Pro is faster than a speeding laptop, let’s see what’s inside the iPad Pro.

It has a 64-bit A9X chip and the M9 processor.

A9X chip delivers snappy responsiveness which means quicker work. Complex actions like editing 4K video happen immediately.

With these specifications, Apple claims that the powerful iPad Pro can do tasks which were once reserved only for workstations and PCs.

And I agree with that, specs are fine, but is it as easy to work on iPad Pro as on laptop computer?

Also, battery life is up to 10 hours with a single charge.

A moment of the truth

iPad Pro is more for someone who is a creative professional, like an illustrator.

Since iPad Pro is a plus sized tablet with Retina display which has a big color standard and a great resolution.

Also, it has a pen and is optimized for that kind of word.

Then it’s most likely it will suit someone who is looking those things out of a laptop. iPad Pro might even make work easier.

However, if your work requires a computer, and if you are into multi-tasking – then the iPad Pro can’t replace your computer.

Why can’t the iPad Pro replace laptops?

The main problem is that the iPad Pro still mostly behaves like a tablet.

It still has iOS which is a software made for iPhone and iPad, instead MacOS which is software made for Mac computers.

Also, navigation on iPad Pro is still mainly via touch screen and it’s sometimes uncomfortable if you would like to have your iPad Pro sitting up at 110 angles.

Touch screen navigation has its own advantages, but for work, I still prefer a keyboard and a mouse.

I also believe it’s the easiest way to work.

Another bad thing is multitasking.

You have mentioned earlier that I said if you are into multitasking, then iPad Pro won’t do it for you.

On the iPad Pro, you could open 2 side by side as seen in their commercial, but in case you want a third tab/app opened, you won’t be able to do it.

What is the iPad Pro good for?

I don’t want you to get me wrong and think that the iPad Pro is bad.

It’s not bad, and don’t forget it still has some great specifications.

I just don’t feel comfortable doing all my work on the iPad Pro, because of the feeling I would be somehow restricted.

iPad Pro is a great plus-sized tablet which I would absolutely recommend for browsing while relaxing on the couch or on a beach.

Its 12.9-inch screen could easily let you watch a movie on it, but it’s not too big to hold it.

Also, iPad Pro has really great speakers, which are in my opinion better than most portable speakers out there.

Apple opened digital illustration to the masses with iPad Pro and Apple Pencil.

iPad Pro is great for illustrations because it’s easy to draw, resize, erase.

You don’t even need to be a great artist, but drawing on iPad Pro will definitely turn out better than drawing on a piece of paper.

There is no such a device on market currently, and this is really a little beast.

iPad Pro is a great device and it’s very powerful, however, it’s not really made for multi-tasking and to do a complete work just on the iPad since it has iOS software instead of MacOS.

However, it would be a great fit for an artist who would use this device for illustrating purposes, since it could make it a lot easier and the iPad Pro really does a great job.

Another great way to use iPad Pro would be for relaxing on a couch, to browse and surf the internet, read the newspapers, play games, watch movies or play music.

It’s powerful and great tablet for entertainment, and it’s a lot easier to use iPad Pro around the house instead of Mac laptop.

I hope you did get the idea, and I hope you decided whether iPad Pro would be good for you or not.

Thank you for explaining who would benefit more from using the iPad Pro and who should stick in with the computer. I found your article very interesting and informative. My daughter is into Apple products, so I will be happy to share the above information with her.

    • Hey, your welcome.

However, iPad Pro really has a great Smart Keyboard which is a big bonus for the iPad Pro itself and it plays a role in helping people to use the iPad Pro as a laptop computer.

I am glad I helped you.
